Videos help the children to learn easier because they assimilate what they are listening and seeing at the same time. It is funny for them and they learn while enjoy.
We can find a lot of videos on the net for teaching the colours. Here you have some of them that I particularly like.

Sure the children will enjoy singing while you play the video without the audio.
For assessing if they have really learnt the colours you can just point to a coloured item and ask them, prepare some worksheets to paint or describe some items they have to paint.
